Final Call for Submissions & Register for Winner Presentations
There are only 2 days left to enter or update your submission for Hack the Bay! (Extended deadline: Sunday, Sep. 20, 8:00am ET).
Submissions will be reviewed by 16 expert judges representing leadership from 7 organizations and expertise across environmental science and modeling, data science, machine learning, and human-centered design. Check out the judges on our hackathon overview page.

Deadline Extension & Accepting Partial Submissions
Thank you for joining Hack the Bay and exploring data around water quality and Chesapeake Bay restoration.
We have extended the submission deadline until Sunday, September 20 at 8:00am ET to allow participants more time to submit and are accepting complete and partial submissions.
Why submit a project that isn't 'complete'? Hackathons are about sourcing good ideas, and prototypes are just the start of something bigger! Understanding the unequal societal burdens of pollution, climate change, and land development is integral to designing solutions that restore ecosystems while improving the lives of all people. New: Stream Health Data & Tutorial Recordings Available!
Hi all,
Happy Friday! A few announcements on some new resources available for this hackathon:
- Using Benthic Data for your analysis? Stream Health Data has been added to our data hub! (Check out the new Benthic_Stream_Health.csv directly here). This information was calculated using the Chessie BIBI R package, which is specifically calibrated for the regions of the Chesapeake watershed and assesses raw benthic invertebrate sample data to calculate stream health. (You can read more about the algorithm here.) FIPS and HUC12 codes included.

Wrangling Geospatial Data Tutorial
Event Reminder! Join Booz Allen Hamilton data scientists on Wednesday, August 5th from 12:00 to 1:00pm (ET) to learn the basic tips, packages, and tools for manipulating geospatial data with python, R, and QGIS. Booz Allen data scientists will provide an entry-level tutorial on using open source GIS tools and packages to work with geospatial data on the Chesapeake Bay.

Join the Hack the Bay team on Monday, August 3rd from 5:30 to 7:00pm (ET) to hear directly from our partners at the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative (CMC).
